I can only speak for California but here the VFW/MC does NOT fall under any Post.  We have our own charter and even have our own State Officers.  While we work WITH Posts, we do not fall under them in any way, shape or fashion.

mark from what I understand that yes the MC is connected to the post, but it has it's own officers and control of any and all funds.

Having an VFW/RC or RG (Riders Club or Riders Group) is a great way to get younger folks interested in the VFW.  We have had quite a few returning vets express interest in joining our VFW/MC (Motorcycle Club) and since they HAVE to be VFW members in order to join us, they all join local Posts.  We discourge them from being members-at-large because we WANT them to have the connection to a Post, so it's a win/win for everyone.

Robert I understand this but what I am seeing is if a new Comander comes into the post and does not like motorcycle groups he can just pull the plug and take all funds away from the group and put them towards the genral VFW group. I feel that each riders group should be seprate but part of the post if you get what i am saying. We should be able to elect President, vice pres and so on but under the new artcile enacted in 2010 it seems they want a tight reighn on the groups and do not trust them. they seem to have a menatality of oh no its a motorcycle club bad image type of thing. I do belong to my posts rider group and our COmander is a stand up guy he also belongs and supports what ever we do so i guess we are lucky for that. I just want to know how togo about letting Nationals know that the Motorcycle group is good for the VFW recruetment for the younger generations.

Mark each post can start up a MC group under their post name.

I am wondering how we as a group can come up with explaining to nationals that the VFWRG is the way to go for the future of the younger Vets to join and become productive members. I am an OIF Vet 2003 -2005 I am in my 40’s now but I know for a fact that a lot of the younger vets think that VFW is for the old guy’s. I use to belong to a Vet MC and have spoken the younger guys about this and they would love to see a more of these riders groups pop up, but what I see is that it has to be a chartered group like the VFW Aux, and such. I belong to the VFWRG out of Port orchard post 2669 and believe if we are able to run our own meetings and have our own designs made up by the chapter riders for each state you would get more of a response from the younger vets coming home. They are more of a lets go ride and have fun but also if you incorporate the business of the post into this they are more apt to help and become productive members.

We are dwindling in numbers and getting smaller and smaller, the guys and gals returning are looking for some one to take that lead, I have read a lot of post on the by-laws and why this group is different than this group but if we all come together and start convincing National that this is a good way Togo and it will increase participation with the younger crowd. I would like to hear what other think about this.

Check out the new info on a new run called "Run to the Cross"  http://www.crossrun.org/  Will any of the members of this group be considering joining this run??

Good evening one and all,

I'm an active member of the VFW/MC and things are going great here in sunny CA.  To clear up any confusion, our main focus of effort is to assist the mission of the VFW in any way we can.  We assist at the Post, District and Department level.  Every penny we raise goes to veterans programs.   While there are differences between RC's/RG's and MC's, our purpose is the same: to help military members, vet's and their familes where ever and when ever we can.

And if anyone is going to be in Southern CA in Sept, we are conducting a 9/11 Memorial Poker Run for the 23rd Dist and would enjoy seeing fellow VFW members join in.

Ride safe one and all, and if anyone has any questions about the VFW/MC, drop me a line.
