Military Service History
I didnt' serve. I wanted to. I tried. Out of high school, I wanted to join the Coast Guard, but was only 17 when I graduated, and my father wouldn't sign my papers....about a year later, I was thinking about joining the Army, and was in almost daily contact with a recruiter. I wanted to drive a tank. He said no. I hemmed and hawed over it for a while, then decided I was just going to join, but wanted to go away for the weekend first. It was that weekend that I was diagnosed with asthma, and my hopes of joining the military were flushed down the toilet.
Tell us about yourself
Not much to tell. I work - a lot. I am a bartender in our post's canteen - I am also a HUGE advocate of getting everyone to stop calling it a bar and start calling it a canteen.
I'm a Ladies Aux member under my grandfather who is a veteran of World War II. I lost him this past April, and have made a promise to continue to work for our nation's heroes, as a way to honor his memory.
Interests and hobbies
VFW! That's really not a joke. I spend A LOT of time at our post - between working the canteen and helping out at fundraisers and such, I am there quite often. I do enjoy shooting pool and spending time with family and friends, as well.
Angela,
Welcome to My WebCom and thank you for the work you do on behalf of the VFW and veterans in general. I read what you posted to the blog about post canteens and I agree with you that most of the problems arise when the canteen gets to running the post instead of the other way around.
Have a great day.
