Hi Charles, this is funny. My husband's name is Charles P. Cassidy, he is from Needham MA. So there may be some relations there.

First, "Welcome Home", I would try the Records Center. They have a website; @ http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/ . They might help. I use to belong to the VFW in Flora, IL. and the American Legion. I have transferred to Mo. VFW post # 5327 now. Check out their website and there, might be a # to call or send them your request by e-mail. If this does no work go to our webblog and find the link to it. The state of IL. should have some info also. The V.A. would have some info too. Be hard to get anything out of them... Had a great "grunt" ex-father in-law that signed me up as fast as possible. WW 2 trooper that has passed. Later, DMC/ARMY/Grunt'69

Charlie,
I have had the same problem, although for a different reason. We do a Buddy Poppy Drive for both Memorial Day & Armistice Day. A part of our set up are white boards on tripod stands to which are attached information regarding service histories of our members.
We are a small post so not a big deal.
To discover what branch of service and when it became necessary to revamp our Adjutant's Member 'sign-in' sheet with new column headings:

VFW Post 8771 Meeting Sign-in Sheet.
PLEASE PRINT
Last name; First name; Service Branch; Conflict; Period, E-mail.

Works for us and allows me to personalize blogs and minutes with comments appropriate to members thoughts in discussions.
Our average monthly meeting is a dinner meeting where the average member attendance is 50% or more of our membership.
We have no Post Home, no canteen, no bar.

Read Post Information. View Photo Album to perhaps gain insight to my comments.
