Great! another friend to travel with to see more light.
I live in Sudbury, Mass. Your PIERCE friend would be amused to know the family has been here since 1635. We still spell and pronounce our name as it was listed on the muster rolls of King Phillips War. The educated Officers wrote Peirce as they were familiar with our signatures. The less well educated non-coms wrote phonetically purs, pearce, pars pierc, perce. The Pierce spelling came about with Noah Webster's first Dictionary in the early 1800's. He, being one of those Yale people proceeded to explain that 200 years of spelling Peirce meant nothing! I before E is the CORRECT way!
So much for YALE!
Sorry! My name has always been a sore spot. Especially with women who marry into the family. Even those named Capellinski. HOLA!
