Update

Well I am coming up on a year as a member of the VFW. In that year I have been voted in as the Post Jr. Vice. I have participated in the Memorial day ceremony, a post picnic, Veterans Day parade which was just awsome, and I have been to every meeting. This coming week we have our poppy drive which my kids will be helping with and I have the VOD dinner with our local winners. I must say, you get out of the VFW what you put into it. It has been rewarding.
The best experiance to date has been the V… Continue

Happenings the last month and a half

Last month I was Sworn in as the post Jr. Vice Commander. Very nice ceremony, I will post the pictures soon. The next week we had our post meeting and I was able to act as Jr Vice for that meeting since my posting does not take effect till July. Then I was able to participate in our Annual Memorial Day service at the local Tahoma Cemetery as the Officer of the Day. It was a real privilege. Tonight I helped out at the post with the weekly Meat Raffle, Nice post fund raiser that benefits the membe… Continue

My Third meeting

Had a good meeting last night. We held our elections and I was able to view and participate in the process. I was nominated for Jr. Vice and was overwhelmingly accepted. One of the members I will call him SGM stated, " I just met this individual thirty seconds ago, was wondering if he could stand up and tell us about himself?" I being me, stated that I sure will, but it would have been nice if the others did an intro also because I don't know any of you that was nominated. So after five minutes… Continue

2nd Meeting

Well last weeks meeting went well as well. I am really liking the VFW. Only question I have is, when does the Post talk about all the things that the post does, IE planning. I guess I will ask this at the next meeting. The meeting went buy fast and I had additional time to talk to some of the old cadre. Starting to warm up to me a bit, getting use to my face and are finding out that I am just not a fly by night member. I look forward to the next meeting, just wish there was more. Time will iron… Continue

My First Meeting

My first meeting went pretty well. I called a few hours before the meeting to inquire if there had been any changes to the schedule, I then asked if I could bring a friend to the meeting that wanted to join. I was told yes. When I arrived a couple of the old timers told me and my friend, to come in and sit down and make yourself comfortable. Thinking this is where we were having the meeting in canteen area we sat down. My friend and I sat down and started talking about work when the QM comes up… Continue

Welcome aboard David. Once you get comfortable in your Post, see if they have a Riders group. A lot of us "younger guys and girls" get together for rides. Kinda fun therapy and thebest friendships you'll ever have.
