- USMC, 30 years military service, recipient of Bronze Star with "v" device and two Army meritorious medals, one with "V" for heroism.

- After military service, I was a teacher at the Swansboro High School and Coastal Community College. I had my own precious metal shop for three years and was appointed as the General Manager of the Jacksonville Mall and served in that position until I retired 21 years later.
