July 5th

Wonderful 4th of July. Once again I carried the National Colors for our post in the 4th of July Parade. Once again it was a lovely day to get out and celebrate the birthday of our great Nation. One thing that disturbs me is the lack of respect the youth of todays has for our flag. Not only is it the youth but some adults too. There are alot of people these days that do not stand when the National Colors pass by when we are marching in the parade. It disturbs me so much to see that. I was raised… Continue

Warm Sunday

Posted on June 14, 2009 at 11:43am 0 Comments

Another hot Sunday here in North Carolina. I am smoking some pork tenderloin on my grill. I hope it turns out. I used the recipe I always use for pork spare ribs minus cooking it in the oven. I started at 0800 this morning and hopefully it will be done by 1300. New job is going good. I hope it slows down some. I worked too hard this week and ended up sleeping 13 hours friday night into saturday. I used to be able to do that but age is catching up to me. Glad I am going to retire soon. It is… Continue

Long Week

What a hard week. I was so exhausted Friday after work. I was glad to be able to sleep in. I got to finally make it to the doctors this week. I now have to attend physical therapy. I am wondering if I really should try to stay in the army or hang up my boots and dogtags and retire. Family is well and plan on spending time with the wife this weekend.

Boring sunday

Strangest thing happened today. My window on my truck broke. I can't get it fixed untill tuesday. No one seems to be working on Sunday to repair auto glass. What kind of luck do I have. All I did was close my door and the glass busted. Oh well, life goes on.

Hi Nathan, Just saw your note on getting discouraged. I guess we all do at times & hopefully the lows will move back to a higher peak. Like a sound wave, up and down then it repeats over and over.

Of course I sitting out here in the middle of the country, it's easier to make general statements when your sitting in a comfortable place, where you want to be. Well I hope you will be in that place soon. I correspond with a friend in Afghanistan with 99 days left on deployment and have been on many deployments myself so I know where your coming from. However the VFW ( back to the topic ) is doing a lot for many many active duty veterans and war veterans that no longer wear bdu's. I see veterans every week, that get assistance from our service officers, many who had just wanted to be away from the military. Example, recently a Korean combat vet came in with his wife and wanted to know if he could just get a little help. When he was held past his discharge date over 50 decades ago, he just wanted out of the military hospital and to go home.

We reviewed his records and were amazed; this man said the government didn't owe him anything, he just did his part. Well we found out he did more than his part. He is now being treated for disabilities that should have been taken care off years ago. He will be buried with his wife in the National Cemetery at Elgin, OK. He is drawing 100% disability from the VA. So Nathan, we ride on those highs and lows with you. Don't completely give up on us and when your can be active with the old farts that want to run everything at your post. We will be the nest generation of leaders in the VFW and will eventually become those old farts.
My weblog page is and my email for military functions is anytime!
Best Wishes,
