Profile Information

I am a...
VFW Life Member, Past Military Service
What Post do you belong to or are you a Member-at-Large?
2514 New Bern, NC
When did you join the VFW or Auxiliary?
1970 in York, Pa. Transfered to post 2514 last year (2007) here in New Bern
Military Service History
Entered in 1966 in the USMC. Boot Camp at Paris Island Platoon 1019
Station areas include Camp Lejeune, Camp Geiger, Gitmo Bay, Cuba, Camp Pendleton, Vietnam and the Phila Naval Hospital. PS: MOS was 0311 & 0331. In 1966 I went UA for about a week and as far as I understand I am still the only Marine who was ever promoted for going UA, that’s a story in it’s self for another time
Tell us about yourself
I basically grew up on the streets of York, Pa. Had two loving parents both of which were on the poorer side of life, father worked 10-12 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week, mother worked two jobs and they both raised me the best they could with much love and pride. I served proudly with the USMC entering at the age of 17. After discharge I did a little of the 60's thing and yes I tried pot, I inhaled and I did like it; not like some people we know. I then entered the medical field which included two yrs. as a volunteer in CPR/SFA and then 2 a nursing assistant in the Lebanon VA Med Center in Lebanon, Pa, in the med/phyc unit, 15 yrs. as an EMT/Paramedic, 5 yrs instructing SFA/CPR and BCLS then 12 years as a phlebotomist/IV tech. Now retired from all that and we have our own little business of pet and house sitting here in Craven/Pamlico Co of NC. Work a lot with the military and veterans. Also work with animal rescue groups and try to make known the connection between Domestic Violence and Animal Abuse which you can read on my website at and while surfin I hope you will visit my Patriotic website at: and while there look for my link to “That’s My Opinion” One more thing you should know. My wife’s former husband also served with pride in the USMC, both he and I were stationed in the same unit at Lejeune. He died from wounds in Nam in Jan of 67. My now wife worked with the military after that for around 17 yrs. When our POW's came home they were met by Hanoi Jane and her crew of Numb nuts. My wife then picked up a rock, threw it at her (H.J.) hitting Hanoi Jane right smack dap in the head, she (my now wife) was arrested but when her father who was a WWI vet came to get her they could not find any record of her arrest...Her Marine given name is Snake!
I moved here to this area 10 years after the death of my father who passed away in 1980, for my mother wanted to move back to her home area here in Pamlico County of NC. she passed away on Memorial Day of this year 2008 at the age of 99 yrs. 2 mo. & 2 days. I am a descendent of the Brinson's & Caton's on my mothers side. And speaking of the Brinson’s, did you know that when the Brinson clan stepped on a shore area in Va. way back in the late 1600's that area was then called “Brinson Landing” which today is known as Virginia Beach. thought you would like to know a little family history! On my fathers side I am a descendent of the Griffith and Vaughn clan.
I have one daughter and two grand children, Doug & Dani . Two step children and two grand children by them; Little Codi is named after my Nam given Name of Cody and the older is named Hannah.
Our dogs names are Tory, Annie, Mic, Sassy, Bruiser and Maggie. Yes you counted right, we have six and they are a lot smarter then many people I know but I know many of you have the same with your pets.
Interests and hobbies
I think almost every thing has some interest at one time or another and as for hobbies. I Like to take pictures, do little drawings, write short fun stories of my life adventures and when the mood hits can write a good poem. OH. I like to cook at times and have one heck of a B B Q sauce recipe which has won an award in this area, and came in 3rd place with my Seafood Gumbo. My other hobby is to work on the left nerve of all and any moonbats that I can!
Memberships in other organizations

Happy Birthday Marines

Posted on November 9, 2008 at 8:30am 0 Comments

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

To all My Marine Corps Family and Corpsmen

Mornin to one All -- As most know tomorrow 10 Nov 2008 will be the our USMC 233rd Birthday, and as this, another…

It's My Opinion

You know, all that anyone hears or reads about now a days seems to be of a slanderous comment or the remarks of ignorance of the belief and faith in the foundation of this nation and of those whom still share in these beliefs.

To those who want to disregard and destroy the faith and belief in our nation and the words of our Founding Fathers,

to you who mock, dishonor or try to destroy Our… Continue

What makes the Marine Corps The Marine Corps, Is The Corpsman

Posted on October 29, 2008 at 9:05pm 0 Comments

Having been one of the Chosen Few: A US Marine and having been severely wounded in Nam, like so many before me in all conflicts, combat, war or how ever you care to phrase it many of us know only too well that,

What makes the Marine Corps The Marine Corps, Is The Corpsman

"What if No One Would Hear ‘Corpsman up!’" or "Medic Up"

Each and Every Marine is familiar with the phrase “Corpsman up,” The only two words that any Marine never want to hear and the only two… Continue

Okey dokey... I'll check MoveAmericaForward... it really doesn't make any sense to me that all these troops are so hard to reach! About all I've been able to do is send cards from Xerox!

Robert, thanks for the invite. I,m a "little" older than you. I enlisted in the USAF in 1951 and was discharged in 1959, a lifetime ago. Was going to reenlist but got stuck in Gen. Lemay's Air Force "SAC"and couldn't get out. Thanks again, J.B.
