Short Bio Sheet.
VFW National Council Member to represent North and South Carolina 2009-2011(elect).
VFW Past State Commander I served during 2005-2006.
Qualification for membership to the VFW was earned by service with the United States Army; in the Republic of Vietnam. Serving as an infantryman with Company D Second Battalion 35 Infantry of the 4th Infantry Division. Later serving with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg and two years with the New Jersey National Guard.
During my service with the VFW I was awarded All American status for State, District, and Post level, which is the top honor from the National Organization for commanders.
I am proud to be the first Commander from North Carolina to receive this Triple Crown joining a short list of only 43 State Commanders to achieve this honor.
I received an Associate degree in Chemistry from Cape Fear Technical Institute. Graduated with Honors, served as President of the Student Government Association and later as President/Chairman CFTI Alumni Association
I received a B.S, in Business Administration, from Mount Olive College were I graduated with high honors and received the Distinguished Achievement Award. I later completed an MBA at Webster University.
From 1980 to 2005 I worked with the Environmental and Radiation Control Department at the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant. Retiring from Progress Energy after 25 years of service.
I am married to Sarah and currently live in Boiling Spring Lakes NC
We have one Son Roy ll and one grandson Roy 3rd
I have also served on the Governors Veterans Affairs Commission Advisory Committee, the North Carolina Veterans Council and on the Board of Directors Veterans Freedom Park Foundation in Cary North Carolina
For my dedication to Veterans I received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Governor Mike Easley the highest award presented to a civilian and the Distinguished Achievement Award from Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Interests and hobbies
Currently working as a service officer assisting Veterans with VA Claims.
and teaching as an Adjunct Instructor Mount Olive College.
I try to spend time outdoors,hunting, Kayaking, or just playing with my four year old grandson.
Memberships in other organizations
Combat Infantrymen’s Association, National Two Year Trustee, American Legion Post 32 ,AMVETS, DAV Chapter 11 Service Officer, MOC, and Honorary member MOAA.
No. I am not a VFW Member as I do not qualify. My son was a life member and
ans Ste Coordinator of POW/MIA. Hedied April 4, 2009. I just joined his site in his memory.
