Memorial Day Tribute: "Remembering William"

My search for any civil war relatives started over three months ago. I wanted to become a member of the UDC ( United Daughters of the Confederacy) because I am a Southern woman by birth and because of the fact I write about and photograph civil war reenactments. The journey started out like any other, finding those facts that would associate me with a family member who served as a Confederate soldier. After speaking with my uncle Gary Calvert, I visited the Mississippi Department of Archives… Continue

Veteran Assisting Veterans

Veterans need to band together to assist each other. It's a brotherhood that only veterans understand. I've made many decisions in my life based on the desire to assist others. Wheather it was assisting the civilians of a foreign country or our veteran at home, my motivation continues to be fueled by this desire. In my current profession as a HR Specialist, I enjoy assiting Veterans in becoming employed within the hospitals that address their health concerns. Under my other hat, as a Real… Continue

Long Week

What a hard week. I was so exhausted Friday after work. I was glad to be able to sleep in. I got to finally make it to the doctors this week. I now have to attend physical therapy. I am wondering if I really should try to stay in the army or hang up my boots and dogtags and retire. Family is well and plan on spending time with the wife this weekend.

Memorial Service for Sky Soldier in NC

A Sky Soldier Gets His Final Wings

I will be heading south to attend the Memorial Service for this newly assigned Sky Angel. Even though we only saw each other a few times a year, he was a friend and Brother. He made a difference in the lives of people. He was a Warrior and and a Patriot.

United Conservatives of Virginia and DCProtest Warrior salute the Warrior and the Patriot and the man Ted Sampley. He is in good company now, as he was before he was… Continue

Meeting Secrecy

I am trying to understand how board members of a VFW Post can state, "there will be no discussion about this meeting outside of this meeting, in the social area or anywhere else."

Baghdad Happens

is the title of the most recent documentary film from former Marine and TV producer J D Johannes.

It is the fifth in a series of films JD has made, chronicling the progress and succeses our military has made in Iraq.

I have a copy and I'm trying to judge the level of interest in hosting or attending a viewing party.

The primary goal is to get the film and the messge as far into the public domain as possible and show people we really are winning in Iraq, despite the… Continue

Funding for Rally Has Been Slow In Coming

We're having difficulty getting funding for the Rally.

I originally posted on our UCV blog that I may have to cancel the Rally if we didn't have the minimum amount required to meet Park Service rules by 12 May. That is the day I meet with the National Park Service and tell them what we will be doing. We still may not be able to make it.

This Will Be My Last Appeal for Help

because on 11 May, if I'm not absolutely certain we have funding, the Declaration of… Continue
