With the 96th Division on Leyte - If, on some dark, murky night up front, you hear something moving in the bushes, please make sure it's a Jap before you shoot. It might be Nellie. and when you hear an eerie night piercing cry tht sounds like the heart-broken call of a man for his mate, don't be frightened. It's only Pfc. Ova Art Kelley calling for his lost love, a Leyte lady Caribao.
The romance between Nellie and Kelley blossomed forth… Continue

When you visit any group, whether you are a member of that group or not, you will find a feed from their respective WebCom Network WebLog. It is low and on the left so one has to scroll down to locate. Just another way to keep up with what other Posts/ Depts/Dists/Groups are doing across the Network.

I was just going through the list of members and found that there are 56 members here from Missouri and only 11 of them have joined the Missouri group. I urge all members from Missouri to join the Missouri group. I also urge other members to join the their respective Department groups. If there is not one yet, then start one. Great way to keep up with what is going on inside your Department as all who are a part of the group get to add photos and start/answer discussions that are relevant to… Continue

When he returned, she found she wanted nothing more than her own personal space.
Creel, like many spouses of Soldiers returning from deployments, discovered firsthand that the rush of emotions after redeployment can both draw a couple together and pull them apart.
"When they're gone, you miss them terribly, but you become very… Continue

I am concerned over the number of young veterans that have failed to inquire of or join the Veterans of Foreign Wars over the last five years.
Then I started thinking about what I saw at the Post on any given meeting night.
Most of our Posts have a large share of Vietnam, Korean and some World War II Veterans.
We have the standard or formal meeting and move on through it rather quickly.
Some of us have a short socializing event at the end with refreshments being served… Continue

When my son returned from Iraq for the second time he couldn't wait to join the VFW. Both of his late Grandfathers were active members in the local post and he admired them greatly. I setup a meeting with two members and they welcomed him with open arms. He was very excited and couldn't wait tell his war buddies that he was a Lifetime Member. But soon the excitement wained and then he quit coming to the meeting.
I let things lay for awhile then after about six months I asked him what the… Continue
