I have noticed a lot of posts across the VFW have groups or fanpages or just an account on Facebook and I have some thoughts to share on that. National encourages it and there is nothing wrong with using facebook but the reality is this.
Only the members of the group, followers of the fanpage or friends of an account see the posts(news, announcements, photos) that are there. Merely because Facebook has 600 million users does not mean that all can see everything. Facebook entries do… Continue

Are you or your post using the free VFW Webcom website? I have been using ours since it first started several years ago and it has been great. It really does help communicate with local veterans and the community. Have even recruited new members from using it. If no one at your post is using it when why don't you lead the way? It is FREE - seems like a no-brainer to me. Follow the link and check it out -… Continue

Please try to explain your photos. The photos uploaded here need some kind of brief explanation about what they are represent. Who, what, why, where or something like that. The photos would gain so much more meaning that way.

Each and every Post and District across the organization has a "Free" VFW WebCom Weblog just waiting for each individual post or district to claim. It is already set-up with basic information and the format is a simple fill-in-the-blanks. The VFW WebCom Network is one of the largest interconnected networks in the world and it is easy to travel from one place to another within the network. Each post has the option of adding their own information, photos, videos, slideshows or whatever they wish.… Continue

I have been getting involved in a few chats concerning Post/District QMs and thought I would post the "The Duties of the Post Quartermaster" straight from the CD that national sent out this past May. The main concern in these chats has been QMs not allowing members to look at the books. I believe H covers it.
Whether you are a QM of not you should read and study this so you know if your QM is doing things correctly. Do not depend on an inspection to catch it because of the 'good old boy… Continue

Do you really know how to forward e-mails? 50% do and 50% do not.
Do you wonder why you get viruses and/or junk mail? Do you like it? Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses & names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to… Continue

Yokosuka, Japan -- When the submarine USS Ohio surfaced at sea and Machinist Mate 1st Class Jason Witty emerged from the hatch to look around, he saw calm, blue water under a peaceful sky -- perfect for the solemn task he was about to perform.
On the map, the Ohio was afloat in an indistinguishable expanse of the Pacific Ocean. As Witty stood on deck holding a silver pitcher, the vessel was alone.
Just like the ill-fated USS Indianapolis, 63 years earlier.

With the 96th Division on Leyte - If, on some dark, murky night up front, you hear something moving in the bushes, please make sure it's a Jap before you shoot. It might be Nellie. and when you hear an eerie night piercing cry tht sounds like the heart-broken call of a man for his mate, don't be frightened. It's only Pfc. Ova Art Kelley calling for his lost love, a Leyte lady Caribao.
The romance between Nellie and Kelley blossomed forth… Continue

When you visit any group, whether you are a member of that group or not, you will find a feed from their respective WebCom Network WebLog. It is low and on the left so one has to scroll down to locate. Just another way to keep up with what other Posts/ Depts/Dists/Groups are doing across the Network.

I was just going through the list of members and found that there are 56 members here from Missouri and only 11 of them have joined the Missouri group. I urge all members from Missouri to join the Missouri group. I also urge other members to join the their respective Department groups. If there is not one yet, then start one. Great way to keep up with what is going on inside your Department as all who are a part of the group get to add photos and start/answer discussions that are relevant to… Continue
