Trip of a life time , It was for about a hundred or so Veterans of WW II .After our flight for August of this year was cancelled due to lack of funds , Brian Duffy and others went on the prowl and got funds and donations and pulled off a major battle and won . I just hope we continue to do so until all the WW II Vets. that want to and are able to go see their Memorial do so .In our District 8 , Commander Charles Costello collected over $ 10,000.00 from from our local banks , City and County Goverments , individuals , and our post Insurance Co. in Edmonton Ky . so it can be done .in a little town with a big heart .During WW II in our county there was 17 of our heroes killed in the war , so they gave there blood for us and all of the surviving Vets it is time we gave to them .Brian also has got Flights going August 29th and September 9th this will help get more of our Veterans to DC we still have a goal for our Korean War Vets. soon as possible .
I went to Wal-Mart yesterday Saturday Aug. 22 and I saw Mr. Edgar Holmes talking to the people at the store showing his picture of his trip and with tears in is eyes saying of how he was treated like a hero and he did not deserve it , I told him he was wrong and he deserved more . It was so sad but yet made me feel so good that I had a part in this . I did not get to go this time as a guardian but I went last year . This trip was so special because for the first time we had eight Veterans from our region or District got to go at one time . My Post 6281 Commander Ricky Brooks probably one of the youngest Commanders in our post history is an Iraq Veteran who was gravley wounded in an IED explosian which also killed his Brother In Law Sgt. Eric Lee Toth on March 30t th 2005 went on the trip as a guardian and really enjoyed it Ricky is a Ky. State Trooper he also enlisted the help of two other Troopers to join him as Guardians . Guardians pay their own way only the WW II veterans do not pay for anything . I will post on this blog pictures of this trip , Names on some are unknown but the smile on their faces is all that what matters the ones that I do have names I will post . As a reminder there was several who did not make the trip because of illness or death that is why it is so important for us to hurry and help before time runs out .
Thanks to all ,
Wayne
