My VFW WebCOM

My father, Elijah Armenta, served in New Guinea and Southern Philippines from May 11,1944 to February 5,1946. He passed away in Chicago in 1999. There are not that many WWII veterans around to tell their stories. Just wondered if anyone out there has stories to share.

I was interested to see your comment about your father. My father served in the Army Air Corp at approximately the same time, same area. He always told a story about having a laundry that he and a few friends set up to make extra money...on what he called the "Zamboogie River" (I couldn't find one)...and one day when the river flooded, there went their business! He used to talk about the cloudless skies, the bright stars in the jungle at night when he was on guard duty.
