How can a person stay involved in VFW affairs when the city you are in does not have an active VFW post. The city of Montgomery is a military and college town and does not have an active auxillary. What a person to do?

Comment by Natalie Copeland on December 29, 2012 at 8:27pm Auxiliary only requires 15 new or reinstates to form. Post 1349 has post and auxiliary located in Prattville Al just outside Montgomery 13 miles. Department headquarters are located in Montgomery and they can assist in telling you what is closest to you.
Your Question poses a question; Is there a Post there or just an inactive Post? If no Post, the remedy is probably easier. Gather 35+ Qualified Veterans and contact the nearest District Officers od the State Headquarters of your intention to form a Post. They will assist. I recommend 50 Veterans, By Laws require minumum of 35. After Post gets going and on its feet, they can then authorize an Auxiliary if there are enough Ladies interested.
If an inactive Post, getting them up off their cans can be problematic. If you are questioning if you want a ladies Auxiliary out of that Post, gather some 35 ladies who are qualified by By Law and approach the post to see if they will authorize the Unit. Highly recommend District and State Assistance in your psocess as the Post is too ****ed to do so.
This is about the m ost help I can offer with your info.
Ella, If they do not have a Post in your area, and you wish to be a member of either the VFW, or it's Auxiliaries, you can sign up on line and become a member at large. If there is a Post near you and they do not have a Ladies Auxiliary, you can start one. All you need is approval in writing from the Post and 15 new members. I hope this helps.
