I have noticed a lot of posts across the VFW have groups or fanpages or just an account on Facebook and I have some thoughts to share on that.  National encourages it and there is nothing wrong with using facebook but the reality is this.

Only the members of the group, followers of the fanpage or friends of an account see the posts(news, announcements, photos) that are there.  Merely because Facebook has 600 million users does not mean that all can see everything.  Facebook entries do not show up in the main search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, Goodsearch) either. So very few really have access to what the posts are doing on Facebook.

One the other hand the VFW WebCom Networks free websites that are provided to each and every Dept, district or post across the VFW are accessible to every internet user around the world.  There are lots of veterans, troopers and others that use 'Search engines" and if your post is using their VFW Webcom website they will find you.

I have fanpages set up for my dept, district and post and when I post a new story to one of my VFW WebCom websites I take a link to that story and post the link to the facebook fanpages bringing the followers to the VFW Webcom website.

Anyone with other thoughts on this?
